Jetro Willems criticised for 'shocking' dive in the build-up to Yoshinori Muto's goal vs Leicester City

Jetro Willems has been accused of delivering the 'most flamboyant' of dives by a former Premier League striker.

Willems collected a superb diagonal ball from Fabian Schar and raced past Ricardo Pereira into the Leicester City box during the League Cup clash at St James' Park.

The full-back ended up on the floor as the ball found its way to Yoshinori Muto to fire home.

That goal levelled things up to 1-1 but Newcastle went onto lose 4-2 on penalties.

However former Sunderland man Darren Bent believes the goal should have been ruled out, and Willems booked for diving.

"Because he has dived, the referee has got to stop the play there and book him, because it is dissent at the end of the day.

“It’s a dive and the goal should not have counted.

“It’s the most flamboyant dive I’ve ever seen - it’s shocking.

“We’re trying to get it out of the game. For me, it shouldn’t have counted."
