He died on Tuesday (December 14), with the post saying: "It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of the well known and popular Cornish comedian Jethro.

"We will continue to support each other in the knowledge that our lives will never be the same without him."

Earlier this year, Jethro made the headlines as he retired at the age of 72 after 50 years of performing.

He announced in February: "I think it's time to hang up my mic.

"It's been a hard decision but my memory has made it easier. A big thank you to everyone that has come to see me over 50 years."

He sold four million DVDs and made nine appearances on TV shows hosted by Des O’Connor.

He also made his television debut on Treasure Hunt where he portrayed a pirate co-host.

Jethro appeared on Jim Davidson’s Generation Game five times – twice giving a demo of how to make a Cornish pasty.

The news he quit came a year after fears for his health when he left a stage early, saying: "I cannot do this anymore."
