Jet2 warns customers to be vigilant as cyber criminals target holidaymakers with fake accounts

Holiday operator Jet2 has warned cyber criminals are using fake e-mail and social media accounts to target holidaymakers.

The company, which flies several routes out of East Midlands Airport, has suspended all holidays up until June 17 because of lockdown measures.

Customers who had trips booked before this date are being contacted by Jet2 to discuss whether they would like to re-book their breaks or get a refund.

But it has now emerged several accounts claiming to be from the group have been "contacting our community about their holidays".

The company said in a statement on its Twitter feed: "Now more than ever, we all need to stay safe and protect ourselves, it's just as important to do this online.

"So when talking to us about your flight or holiday on social media we can only discuss with lead passenger, who will need to have their booking details to hand."

The statement added that official communication on Twitter will only come from the following accounts: @Jet2, @Jet2tweets and @Jet2pics.

For email, the company will only use addresses which end: @jet2.com, @jet2holidays.com, @jet2holidaysemail.com, @jet2email.com and @jet2citybreaksemail.com.

The company's statement added: "Our contact centre are the only team who would ask for these and you'll have our privacy process explained to you ahead of this."
