Jet2, TUI, EasyJet and Ryanair amber list rule changes and how it will affect your insurance

It's all change once more for the possibility of foreign holidays and it's left many travellers wondering if their insurance will still be valid.

Holidaymakers were left devastated as the Balearic Islands - consisting of Ibiza, Majorca, Menorca and Formentera - were all moved to the amber list.

And unfortunately it's not great news if your destination has moved from green to amber as it's most likely your travel insurance will no longer be valid.

Advice to travel isn't just dependent on the traffic light system - the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) issues advice and it operates separately.

This means even if the destination is on the government's amber list, the advice from the FCDO may differ.

If tourists are travelling against the advice of FCDO then only a very small number of travel insurances will retain its validity.

Currently, if the destination is either on the amber or red list, advice from the government is not to travel.

For families looking to head abroad and in the midst of the pandemic it's more important then ever to get hold of travel insurance.

So how can you make sure you are protected?

It's dependent on who you buy through but your best chance is to make sure your holiday is Atol-protected.

Atol protection means you're likely to be refunded if cancellation or other problems arise.

And remember, just because your destination the amber list, it doesn't necessarily mean the FCDO are saying don't travel, so it's important to check.

Confused.com has said for holidaymakers traveling against government advice, you won't be covered by any travel insurance policy you buy.

It did begin allowing travellers to purchase insurance after May 17 - with the cheapest Europe policy priced at £2.59 but if you're travelling against FCDO advice, you won't be covered.

This includes everything from lost baggage to even getting coronavirus.

Money Supermarket compares deals from multiple providers and travellers can get a single trip cover from £4.71.

Again these is likely to be void if the FCDO says countries shouldn't be travelled to.

TUI will allow you to change your holiday up to 28 days before the holiday if the countries' advice changes.

If the FCDO advices the country shouldn't be travelled to, Jet2 has said it will not insure you

As it stands, the FCDO continue to advise against all non-essential international travel to some countries and territories.
