Flight and holiday operator Jet2 has suspended its services to Spain’s Balearic and Canary Islands for the next two weeks.
The move comes after the government extended its 14-day quarantine to all returning travellers from the Spanish mainland to the islands as well.
The tour operator has suspended flights to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza up to and including August 9, after the government changed its advice on travel to the Balearic and Canary Islands.
The company had already suspended flights and holidays to mainland Spain until August 16.
On Monday evening, it advised customers due to travel to the Balearic and Canary Islands on Tuesday not to go to the airport.
Jet2 said in a statement: “Where customers are affected by any programme changes, we have been repeatedly recognised for how we have been looking after customers, offering the option to rebook with no admin fee, a Refund Credit Note or a full cash refund, and we will be contacting customers to discuss these options.”
Fellow tour operator Tui announced it was suspending all of its holiday packages to Spain for the next two weeks when they government introduced the new quarantine regulations on Sunday.
Yesterday, the Telegraph reported that quarantine for people retuning from Spain could drop down to 10 days 'under plans being looked at by ministers'. Brits returning from Spain would need to quarantine for eigh days before taking a coronavirus test and would only need to quarantine for two more days after than if the test returned negative.
