Jet2, Ryanair, easyJet: Green and red list countries expected to change this week

With lockdown now over, foreign holidays are now back on the agenda for many of us.

There are, of course, the 29 countries on the green list, where UK residents can go without needing to quarantine on their return to Britain. You also now won't need to quarantine on your return from the majority of the amber list countries, provided you're double vaccinated against Covid-19 or under 18.

Those lists could be about to change, however, with a travel review coming up this week. Here are some of the changes that could happen.

At risk of moving from green to amber

The following are at risk of moving from the green list to the amber list, according to the government: Anguilla, Antarctica, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, British Indian Ocean Territory, Cayman Islands, Croatia, Dominica, Grenada, Israel and Jerusalem, Madeira, Montserrat, Pitcairn, Henderson, Ducie, and the Oeno Islands, Taiwan, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

At risk of moving from amber to red

Greece, Italy, and Spain are all at risk of moving to the red list, according to the Times. The government had planned on introducing an official "amber watchlist", containing countries on the amber list that were at risk of moving to red, but decided against it. Nevertheless, we know the government was considering adding those three countries to that watchlist, meaning they could go red soon.

That would put popular resorts like Marbella, Benalmádena, Benidorm, San Sebastian, Barcelona, Madrid, Mykonos, Corfu, Crete, Athens, Rome, Sicily, Lake Garda, Lake Como, Sardinia, Tuscany, and the Amalfi coast off limits.

France could change category

France is currently on the "amber-plus" list, meaning all travellers from France to the UK must quarantine at home, even if they've been vaccinated. This caused a diplomatic row with France, so there is speculation that the country could be moved to the regular amber list. This would potentially open up the possibility of holidays to Paris, the Cote d'Azur, Saint-Tropez, Bordeaux, Lyon, and Toulouse.

Countries that could go green

Cambridgeshire Live reports that the analyst Paul Charles, who runs the travel consultancy PC Agency, predicted that potential additions could also include Bosnia, Canada, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Meanwhile, i news reports that Charles and former BA strategist Robert Boyle reckon Austria and Switzerland will also make the green list. Boyle also suggests Azerbaijan, Bhutan and Vietnam are in with a shot.

The updated travel list is set to be released this week and will likely come into force from Monday, August 9.
