Jet2 refuses to refund Scots due to fly to Portugal after quarantine rule change

Scottish holidaymakers due to fly out to Portugal will not be offered refunds from Jet2 despite a change in restrictions.

Travellers planning to head to the holiday destination were dealt a blow last week when new travel restrictions were imposed on the country.

Anyone arriving back to Scotland from Portugal will now have to self-isolate for 14 days.

Portugal was added to the quarantine list after the number of infections in the country continued to grow.

As the restrictions aren't yet backed by the UK Government, so aren't applicable to travellers heading back to England.

For this reason, Jet2 says that flights will still be going ahead and refund won't be given for anyone unable to travel unless changes are imposed by the UK government.

A spokesperson for Jet2 said: "We always follow the advice of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and their guidance states that Portugal is exempt from their advice against all n on-essential international travel.

"As a result, we are continuing to operate our scheduled programme to and from Portugal, and our usual terms and conditions apply.

"This is a fast-moving situation, and we are continuing to monitor the situation very closely.”

Scots holidaymakers have taken to social media to express their anger at the decision, with some demanding a refund.

One wrote: “What’s the options for Scottish customers booked for Portugal and can’t go due to quarantine? Jet2 keep ignoring situation and customers lose their money, or are you going to respond?”

Another said: “Jet2 doesn’t recognise the Scottish Government rule in regards to quarantine, meaning our holiday will still go ahead unless the UK Government changes advice on Portugal.

"So much for a four nation approach. It isn’t causing confusion, just worry, upset and financial loss.”

Rival firm TUI has stated that anyone due to travel to Portugal from Scotland before September 15 will be entitled to amend their holiday free of charge.

Jet2 announced on Tuesday that it will be suspending Scots holidays heading to Zante and Crete.

Greece has also been removed from the Scottish Government’s exemption list, but it is unclear if flights and holidays to any other Greek destinations will be impacted.

News of the suspensions came after the UK Government announced anyone arriving back in England from a number of Greek islands will have to quarantine as of Wednesday morning.
