Jet2 orders fleet of new Airbus 321 NEO planes in deal worth up to £5.9bn

Holiday airline Jet2 has agreed a multi-billion pounds deal to purchase a fleet of Airbus A321 NEO planes to boost its fleet.

It is buying 36 of the new aircraft in the first phase of the order and this can eventually be extended to 60 of the jets in the deal worth an initial £3.6billion - rising to £5.9billion.

The Airbus 321 NEO is one of the most fuel-efficient jets on the market. It can accommodate more than 220 passengers and has a range of 4,600 miles.

Jet2 said it had negotiated significant discounts from the list price which will be financed through a combination of internal resources and debt.

Jet2 plc executive chairman Philip Meeson said: "We are delighted to have placed this order with Airbus and are proud to operate this aircraft which has more seats, provides additional operating benefits through lower fuel consumption and is, in our opinion, the most efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft in its class today.

"It will ensure our customers have a wonderfully comfortable and enjoyable experience as they travel with us for their well-deserved holidays or scheduled flights with Jet2.com that are increasingly more environmentally sustainable for many years to come.”

Jet2 currently operates 90 aircraft in its fleet, including 74 Boeing 737-800 planes.
