Jet2 issue update on when holidays and flights to Portugal's Algarve will resume

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has said it will resume its flights and holidays programme to Faro, in Portugal's Algarve, after the country was put back on the coronavirus 'safe travel corridor' list.

In a statement, they said flights would resume from Monday, including from Manchester Airport.

Multiple weekly flights will departing from all nine of its UK bases - Belfast, Birmingham, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, London Stansted and Newcastle as well as Manchester.

The company is already operating to Madeira (Funchal) from Birmingham, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and London Stansted.

Holidaymakers arriving to the UK from Portugal will no longer have to quarantine, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced on Thursday night.

Data shows that coronavirus cases in Portugal have decreased, meaning that the country can be added to the safe travel corridor list, the minister said.

But holidaymakers travelling to the UK from Croatia will have to self-isolate for 14 days from 4am on Saturday after the country was removed from the UK government's safe travel corridor list.

The same also applies to Austria, and Trinidad and Tobago 'to keep infection rates down', Mr Shapps said.

Chief executive Steve Heapy said: "We welcome this change in Government advice which means that customers can once again look forward to enjoying their well-deserved holidays in the stunning Algarve region.

"With flights and holidays operating to Faro, in addition to Madeira, we are thrilled to be offering customers two fantastic options in Portugal when they're looking to book their well-deserved holiday away from the gloom."

Claudia Miguel, UK director, Turismo de Portugal, welcomed the news.

She said: "As a valued partner, we are delighted that Jet2.com and Jet2holidays is recommencing flights and holidays to Faro in addition to Madeira.

"We have consistently maintained our unwavering confidence in the safety of Portugal, and we are delighted to have arrived at a decision which we feel far better reflects the reality of the situation in Portugal."
