Jet2 holidays confusion as company offers Valentine's Day deal for 'romantic getaways'

Jet2 is renowned for its city breaks and romantic trips, usually given in a flash sale leading up to Valentine's Day.

The website does currently display what appears to be offers in the lead up to the February sale, implying customers would be able to travel for the breaks.

Yet for the airline, which flies regularly from Leeds Bradford Airport, due to lockdown restrictions flights and holidays have been suspended until March 25.

The display on the website has caused much confusion to customers that not only are hoping to travel but also those who are waiting on refunds from cancelled flights.

The government's lockdown has meant that the message is currently to stay at home and to stay local.

With Covid-19 cases rising in Yorkshire, it appears as though restrictions could be in place a while longer.

Jet2 released a statement to help provide clarity for its customers in light of the website confusion.

The firm said: “Due to the ongoing uncertainty and travel restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, we have taken the decision to extend the suspension of flights and holidays up to and including 25th March 2021.

“Where customers yet to travel are affected by any programme changes, our approach to providing smooth and speedy refunds has been widely praised, and we will be automatically cancelling affected bookings with a full refund.

"Since the onset of the pandemic, we have always respected that customers should receive their money back if we have not provided their flight or holiday.

"We know that customers will remember this approach, and the way we have looked after them will play an important part in our long-term strategy to continue to grow successfully and become the UK’s Leading and Best Leisure Travel business.

“There is a lot of demand for our award-winning flights and holidays and with a huge choice of popular destinations available from across our network of ten UK bases, customers can take advantage of some fantastic deals for Summer 21, Winter 21/22 and Summer 22.

"Our customers work hard and save hard for their holidays, and we are very excited to take them away on holiday again.

"For customers due to travel from 26th March onwards, we will provide further updates closer to the time as appropriate.

“We would like to thank our valued customers for their patience and understanding.”

However, not all customers have been happy with the response as some are still receiving emails for offers causing further confusion.

Under current goverment restrictions, it is stated: "You must stay at home.

"You must not leave home or travel, including internationally, unless you have a legally permitted reason to do so.

"If you intend to travel to England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland from abroad, including UK nationals returning home, you must provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 test result taken up to 3 days before departure.

"If you do not comply (and you do not have a valid exemption) your airline or carrier may refuse you boarding and/or you may be fined on arrival."

Latest Civil Aviation Authority data suggests that hundreds of thousands of international passengers have passed through Leeds Bradford Airport during the pandemic.

People boarded or got off international flights at the airport 265,865 times between April and November according to the statistics.
