Leeds-based airline Jet2.com has added more destinations to its growing list of cancelled destinations for late summer sun.
Holidays from Leeds Bradford Airport - and other UK hubs - to Heraklion and Chania in Crete will not go ahead until Monday, September 21 at the earliest. Holidaymakers hoping to fly to Zante have also been hit with bad news, with the same restrictions applying to the Greek island.
It comes after the airline cancelled hundreds of flights to the likes of Spain, Portugal and Cyprus earlier this summer, although the majority of routes are now back up and running.
In a statement, Jet2 said: "Due to the latest government travel advice, we have taken the decision to suspend our package holidays to Crete (Heraklion and Chania) and Zante up to and including 20th September.
"Customers in these destinations can continue to enjoy their holidays and we will be in touch should there be any changes to their return flights to the UK."
Anyone affected will be contacted by Jet2, with the cancellations only affecting those booked on package holidays.
People who have booked flights only with Jet2 will still be able to fly on their scheduled plane. Alternatively, you can contact the airline to swap the date of your flight with no admin fee.
The airline industry has been decimated by the global pandemic, with flights grounded for several months. Even when holidays resumed, a number of destinations were added to the government's quarantine list, giving customers another element to think about when booking flights abroad.
However, Jet2 announced a huge summer 2021 sale this week, with the company revealing big discounts of up to £400 off family holidays.
Steve Heapy, Jet2 chief executive, said: "After what has been an uncertain and difficult time for everyone, we want to give our customers something to really look forward to.
"There’s no feeling like getting that all-important summer holiday booked, and this huge sale means there are some fantastic deals to be had, whether it’s £100 off per person on a package holiday or 10% off a Jet2.com flight."
