Jet2 foreign holiday hopes ahead of UK Government travel taskforce update

Confidence is growing holidaymakers desperate to head for the sun from Birmingham Airport this year.

Despite various warnings that it is too early to consider lifting the UK Government's ban on non-essential overseas travel, polling by Jet2 has revealed there is huge demand for foreign holidays.

The airline and tour operates operates from 10 UK airports with routes to almost 60 destinations. The UK's Global Travel taskforce is set to report back with its plans to lift restrictions on April 12 and it is hoped holidays will be allowed from May 17.

Data shows confidence has risen to its highest level in 2021, with 52 per cent of those surveyed saying they feel confident when it comes to travelling. Just one-in-four state they are still dubious about jetting abroad.

This is not only the highest percentage of adults saying that they feel confident this year, but also marks the lowest percentage of people saying they do not feel confident.

The increased confidence follows a number of developments in recent weeks, including the UK government’s ambition to reopen travel, the successful vaccine rollout in the UK, and positive announcements by a number of overseas destinations saying that they will welcome UK holidaymakers this summer.

Furthermore, when asked about their travel plans, more than half of respondents said they are eager to get away as soon as possible – a steep rise from the turn of the year.

Bookings to Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Portugal and Turkey, have seen dramatic increases showing people's desire to get away.

Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “Understandably, customer confidence has risen and fallen significantly over the past year, however we are hugely encouraged by the rising levels of confidence of the past few weeks.

"This consistent and continued sense of positivity is translating into the demand that we are seeing, which tells us that our customers aren’t just dreaming of getting away to the sunshine this summer, they are getting their much-needed holidays booked in.”
