Jet2 flights to Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria cancelled for most of September

Holidaymakers hoping to fly to the Canary Islands with Jet2.com have been hit with the news that the Leeds-based airline has cancelled all flights for the next two-and-a-half weeks.

The announcement came just 24 hours after package holidays to Crete and Zante were also cancelled by Jet2 in line with the latest government guidance on coronavirus.

Today's news means that all flights to Tenerife, Lanazrote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria will not go ahead until at least September 27. Leeds Bradford Airport is among the terminals where planes will remain grounded.

In a statement, Jet2 said: "Due to current government guidance, we have taken the decision to suspend flights and holidays to the Canary Islands up to and including 26th September.

"Where customers are affected by any programme changes, we will be in touch to discuss their options, which include rebooking with no admin fee, a refund credit note or a full cash refund.

"For bookings due to travel to the Canary Islands from 27th September onwards, we are continuing to monitor the situation very closely and will provide an additional update once we receive further information from the government."

Yesterday (Tuesday), Jet2 announced that holidays from Leeds Bradford Airport - and other UK hubs - to Heraklion and Chania in Crete will not go ahead until Monday, September 21 at the earliest.

Holidaymakers hoping to fly to Zante were also hit with bad news, with the same restrictions applying to the Greek island.
