Jet2 flights from Newcastle to Canary Islands back on due to updated travel advice

Jet2 is relaunching flights from Newcastle to the Canary Islands later in October after the Government added the destinations to the travel corridor list.

There will be no requirement for people to quarantine when returning to the UK from Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura from Sunday, October 25.

It means - as things stand - that tourists can head to the islands from the UK and return without having to self-isolate for two weeks after they arrive back into the UK.

Jet2 flights from Newcastle to Tenerife will resume on October 31, followed by routes to Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura from November 1.

Passengers can travel from Newcastle International Airport, as well as Belfast, Birmingham, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Stansted.

Richard Knight, chief operating officer at Newcastle Airport, said: "We welcome the Government's decision to add the Canary Islands to the list of travel corridors. The Canaries are very popular destinations for autumn and winter sun, therefore the removal of the 14-day quarantine measure is excellent news for the airport, our airline partners and also the North East travelling public."

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “We welcome today’s announcement and we know that our customers, who want to get flying again from Newcastle Airport, will do so too.

"For some time we have been calling for a proportionate, evidence-based approach to safe travel and this is very much a step in the right direction. There is much to do still, and we look forward to working with the Government to achieve that.”

“The Canary Islands are hugely important, both for us as a business and for our customers as a much-loved holiday favourite. We know how much our customers want to get away for some winter sun in the Canaries, and they can do this again from October 31 onwards.

"As the UK’s leading operator to the Canary Islands, we will be restarting with a programme that offers customers in the region fantastic choice and flexibility, as well as all the award-winning benefits that they know and love.”
