Jet2 flights cancelled and East Midlands Airport urges passengers to stay at home

Passengers travelling to Spain with Jet2 have been urged not to head to East Midlands Airport today after flights to several holiday destinations were cancelled.

In a complete U-turn the budget airline has grounded all flights and cancelled holidays to mainland Spain from today (July 28) until August 17, reports Manchester Evening News.

The decision comes as a result of the UK's imposed quarantine rule over coronavirus.

The Mirror reports the company had confirmed it would not be cancelling holidays and flights to Spain just 24 hours earlier and advised customers to arrive at the airport as normal.

East Midlands Airport also issued a warning to affected passengers last night, urging them not to visit the airport.

A tweet from the airport account read: "Please note that all Jet2 flights to mainland Spain, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza have been cancelled tomorrow (28 July).

"Passengers for these flights are advised not to travel to the airport. Follow @jet2tweets for updates."

The news means the following Jet2 flights today from East Midlands Airport are cancelled.

07.50 Palma de Mallorca - Flight number: LS601

09.05 Menorca - LS677

10.10 Lanzarote - LS631

10.30 Fuerteventura - LS613

11.05 Tenerife - LS633

11.25 Gran Canaria - LS669

A statement from Jet2 said: “Following the latest government advice regarding travel to mainland Spain from the UK, we have taken the decision to suspend our flights and holidays programme to Costa de Almeria, Alicante, Malaga and Murcia from 28th July up to and including 16th August."

Jet2 is continuing to operate their scheduled programme to and from the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands and it says their "usual terms and conditions apply".
