Leeds-based airline Jet2 has announced it is cancelling more flights to the Spanish islands in a major blow to thousands of holidaymakers.
The airline initially cancelled all holidays to mainland Spain up to and including August 16, but flights to the Balearic and Canary Islands were only cancelled until August 9.
However, Jet2 have now issued fresh information which affects anyone who was hoping to travel to Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Majorca, Menorca or Ibiza next week.
In a statement, Jet2 said: "As the government has not changed its advice regarding travel to the Balearic and Canary Islands from the UK, we have taken the decision to suspend flights and holidays to the Balearic and Canary Islands up to and including 15th August."
It means that people with flights booked to anywhere in Spain next week will no longer be able to travel.
Jet2 have criticised the "uncertainty" of the government's blanket ban. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is currently advising against all but essential travel to both the Spanish mainland and the Spanish islands.
There is also a further warning from Jet2 that holidays booked beyond August 15 could still be affected.
The statement continued: "When it comes to travelling to these destinations, we will have staggered start dates and will be making some additional adjustments to our flying programmes, meaning that some flights on and beyond this date may be cancelled."
Jet2 customers affected by the latest changes will be contacted by the airline to discuss options, which will include either rebooking with no admin fee, a refund credit note or a full cash refund.
