Jet2 cancels all flights and holidays until April due to new Scots travel rules

Jet2 has cancelled all holidays and flights until mid-April due to the latest travel travel restrictions amid uncertainty over when lockdown will end.

The budget airline said it was handing out full refunds for holidaymakers who have had their travel plans scrapped over Easter.

Jet2 had previously announced plans to suspend their services until late March, but the new announcement has extended the ban until April 14.

It comes as all passengers who fly into Scotland must enter quarantine hotels from next week under tough new rules intended to go further than the rest of the UK.

In a statement posted on the company's Twitter feed, Jet2 said: "Due to the ongoing uncertainty and travel restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, we have taken the decision to extend the suspension of flights and holidays up to and including 14th April 20201.

"Where customers yet to travel are affected by any programme changes, our industry-leading and prompt refunding of over £1bn has been widely praised, and we will continue to automatically cancel affected bookings with a full refund."

It comes as Scottish transport secretary Michael Matheson said arrivals will be expected to pay £1,750 in advance to cover the costs of their isolation and testing.

Six hotels near Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen airports - with a total capacity of 1,300 - will be used to quarantine passengers for a period of 10 days at a time as of February 15.

The rooms must be booked and paid for via a central UK Government online portal, due to go live on Thursday.

The SNP minister added more details to the plan one day after announcing he wanted to go further than England's "red list" quarantine plan for people coming from higher risk countries.

He said around 400 people a week are likely to avoid the otherwise compulsory stays, including critical North Sea oil and gas workers.
