Jet2 announces plans to resume flights this summer

Travel firm and airline giant Jet2 has announced it will resume flights and holidays this summer.

The operator released a statement earlier today (April 7) confirming plans to recommence operations on June 17.

The major airline, which provides multiple routes to and from Glasgow Airport, released the details as part of their response to the coronavirus crisis.

The decision means all bookings scheduled to depart before this date are now cancelled and customers are entitled to a full refund within 14 days.

The company says that it will contact all passengers booked to fly before June 17.

In a statement a Jet2 spokesperson said:  "In view of the ongoing uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have taken the decision to recommence our flights and holidays programme on June 17th.

"This means for customers travelling before this date, unfortunately your flights and holidays will not be operating.

"We will be contacting all affected customers to discuss their options, one of which is rebooking to a later date.  We are contacting all customers in departure date order which we believe is the fairest way to handle this.

"The number of calls we have been receiving is unprecedented so you do not need to make contact with us.

"Please do bear with us, and we thank customers in advance for their loyalty, understanding and patience."

The news comes just a week after Jet2 pledged to honour flights booked by NHS staff in April, May or June free of charge.
