Portugal has been rated as the ‘best value’ holiday destination in the eurozone by UK holidaymakers.
The popular destination was ranked one of the world’s best-value places to visit in the latest Post Office Holiday Money Report survey with the Algarve emerging as cheapest eurozone resort for tourist staples.
The average daily cost of £44 for purchasing every-day items such as a cup of coffee, sun cream and a three-course meal for two with a bottle of house wine, is 16.5 per cent lower than previous years.
It is third in the global list of nations where the pound stretches furthest behind Bulgaria (Sunny Beach) at £27.71 and Turkey (Marmaris) at £37.19.
The Portuguese island of Madeira was also ranked 10th among the cheapest holiday hotspots worldwide, with an average daily cost for common holiday spends standing at £62.
The Post Office Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer was compiled with the help of national and regional tourist boards and specialist tour operators.
The news coincides with tour operator and airline Jet2 adding more flights and holidays to Faro (Algarve) and Madeira, in response to significant demand to Portugal being put on the green list for travel,
The package holiday specialist has introduced extra services to Faro (Algarve) from Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle Airports to meet with demand from holidaymakers looking to enjoy an unbeatable value break in the Portuguese sunshine this summer.
