Jet2 adds more flights to Portugal as demand soars for green list resorts

Airline and tour operator Jet2 has added more flights and holiday capacity to Portugal to cope with increasing demand for trips to the 'green list' destination.

It has reported a significant increase in demand for Summer 21 bookings to Faro (Algarve) and Funchal (Madeira) with an increase of more than 600 per cent in the 24 hours following the green list announcement, and 1,300 per cent when compared to the same period a week earlier.

The announcement represents over 10,000 additional seats going on sale across the two destinations this summer, demonstrating the strong demand from UK holidaymakers.

Passengers travelling from Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle and London Stansted Airports can now enjoy more choice and greater flexibility.

Additional flights and holidays on sale from today are as follows:

Faro (Algarve):

  • Birmingham Airport - weekly Saturday services added from July 3-17 meaning daily services in July.
  • Bristol Airport – flying programme brought forward to commence on July 2 instead of late-August, with Monday and Friday services during the peak holiday season.
  • Glasgow Airport – weekly Sunday services added from June 27 through to August 8 meaning up to four weekly services flying to the Portuguese sunshine this summer.
  • Edinburgh Airport – weekly services added every Tuesday from June 29 right through to August 31, meaning up to five weekly services for holidaymakers to choose from.
  • Newcastle Airport – weekly services added every Tuesday from June 29 through to July 20, giving a choice of daily services this summer.

Funchal (Madeira):

  • Manchester Airport – weekly Saturday services introduced from July 3 until August 28, meaning up to three weekly services this summer.
  • London Stansted – weekly Friday services added from July 2 right through to September 24, meaning up to two weekly services this summer.

Jet2 will operate to Faro from all 10 of its UK bases this summer, with flights and holidays operating to Madeira from nine UK hubs.

Chief executive Steve Heapy said: “As things open up again, combined with positive vaccination and infection rates, one of the very first things people want to do is get away to relax in the sunshine.

"We are pleased to see Governments reopening travel so that holidaymakers can do this, and the response to Portugal going on the green list from customers in England and Scotland has been exceptional.

"In response to that, we are delighted to be giving customers even more choice when it comes to booking and enjoying some sunshine in the Algarve and Madeira. We look forward to more positive news in the coming weeks, and we know that our customers feel the same.”
