Jet-ski and picnic rule-breakers warned to stay clear of Highland Perthshire

People in the Blair Atholl and Loch Tay area are concerned outsiders are using Highland Perthshire as a holiday destination while the country is on lockdown.

Near Blair Atholl, a car and towing caravan was observed remaining overnight in the car park of House of Bruar and reported to the police.

On Monday a group with jet-skis - who told locals they were from Dundee, keen to try out their new toys - were told to clear off the beach at Kenmore and police were alerted.

Comments on social media complained that the jet-skiers had no safety boat on the loch and, had there been an accident, huge strain would be put on local emergency resources.

Another Loch Tay resident gave a cyclist short shift for picnicking in a field near Ardtalnaig, having seen they had opened and closed the farm gate without using gloves.

Responding to the many angry local residents seeing unwanted visitors, Independent Highland ward councillor, Xander McDade gave advice about reporting Stay at Home rule-breakers.

Cllr McDade said: “Anyone who suspects people are breaking the law should report it to the police on 101.

“I raised the matter of camping/caravans/day trippers with the council chief executive this week and they will be raising it with the police.

“The Cairngorms National Park is also putting out joint messages with the police instructing people who don’t live here to stay away.”
