Jet-setting celebs lose hundreds in ad cash as furious fans unfollow over lockdown travel

Celebrities who jetted off on sunny work trips abroad while Brits battled tough coronavirus restrictions at home are now paying the price for their globe-trotting.

Scores of reality TV stars and influencers quit Britain and jetted off to destinations like Dubai, as Britain lurched into higher tiers and then into lockdown.

It was later revealed many have lost thousands of followers as furious fans gave them the boot over their smug snaps in the sun.

Now, it's emerged that losing followers is hitting them financially as it means the value for each of their sponsored posts has plummted.

Data released by SlotsUp shows Love Island winner Amber Gill is among those who've taken a hit after her trip to Dubai in December.

Amber jetted off to the UAE before Christmas around the time Tier 4 restrictions came into force across London and much of the South East of England.

She later defended her trip declaring:"I had no idea Tier 4 was a thing".

The telly star is said to have lost almost 25,000 Instagram followers since the jaunt, and Slotsup has calculated it means the value of her sponsored posts has plummeted by around £320.

Another former Love Island star, Wes Nelson, headed to Dubai this month.

He managed to get a flight out of UAE shortly before the UK government removed Dubai from the travel corridor safe list - meaning he wouldn't have to isolate for 10 days on his return.

Wes is believed to have since lost around 17,500 followers, meaning his sponsored posts would decrease in value by around £130 per post.

The data reveals other former Love Island stars have lost followers after their adventures abroad.

Anton Danyluk headed to Dubai in December before his native Scotland removed the travel corridor with the city.

He was pictured partying in the sun there with other stars including Chloe Ferry, and he's now said to have lost around 15,500 followers.

Laura Anderson, who also spent time in Dubai, is said to be down around 14,500 while Kaz Crossley is believed to have lost just under 12,000.

Celebrities' work trips abroad have sparked a major backlash at home, with the Mirror exclusively revealing many of them have been bombarded with abuse and death threats.

It was also revealed that one influencer travel company had warned its stars in Dubai not to post pictures from their trips in a bid to avoid public outrage.
