The real meaning behind Jesy Nelson’s unusual names for her newborn twin daughters has been revealed, according to sources.
The former Little Mix star, 33, welcomed Ocean Jade Nelson-Foster and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster on Thursday with her boyfriend Zion Foster after months of dealing with a high-risk pregnancy condition.
Many fans wondered if the use of Jade was a tribute to Nelson’s former Little Mix bandmate, Jade Thirlwall - five years after she quit the girl group in 2020.
However, it has now been reported that the moniker is an ode to Nelson’s older sister, who she’s “very close” to.
“The names which have been chosen they came up with during their long stay in hospital over the last two months as they waited for the twins to grow bigger before they were born,” a source told The Mirror.
“Jade was always going to be a middle name as Jesy is very close to her sister. It is a nod to her sister rather than anything else.”

The insider added that Nelson and Foster are still in hospital with the twins and could stay for a few more days.
“They will definitely be in hospital a little longer yet but are just enjoying spending time with their babies. Jesy and Zion are so happy and thrilled the twins are here and have arrived safe and well,” they shared.
It’s typical for babies born prematurely to be kept at the hospital for a short time after birth so doctors can monitor them.
The Standard has contacted Nelson’s representative for comment.
The singer had previously been open about complications during her pregnancy, explaining the twins were “living off one placenta” due to pre-stage twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS).
TTTS is rare condition affecting blood flow between twins in the womb. She later underwent emergency surgery and confirmed that the TTTS had cleared up.
Nelson and Foster had been living in a London hospital since the pop star’s surgery in March and doctors had planned to induce the births at 32 weeks.
She revealed in her baby announcement post that her babies were born at 31 weeks and five days.
Sharing photos of her and Foster cradling the newborns in hospital, Nelson wrote: “So… Our beautiful baby girls decided to come at 31 weeks plus 5 days.
“It all happened so quickly, but we are so blessed that they are here with us, healthy and fighting strong! We’ve never felt more in love. Everybody meet Ocean Jade Nelson-Foster and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster.”
Nelson announced her pregnancy in January.
She has previously said her twins were monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA), meaning they share a single placenta but have their own separate sacs.
According to the NHS website, TTTS affects 10 to 15% of identical twins who share a placenta, and it “can have serious consequences”.
The singer left Little Mix in December 2020 after nine years in the successful girl group, which was formed on The X Factor in 2011, and also featured Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards, and Jade Thirlwall.
