Jesy Nelson ‘quit Little Mix without telling band’ and ignored 'blackfishing' warnings

By Susan Knox

Jesy Nelson quit Little Mix without telling her former band members, it has been claimed.

The 30-year-old singer sent shockwaves through the showbiz world when she announced her departure from the band in December, ten years after they shot to to fame on The X Factor.

At the time, the Shout Out To My Ex singer stated her reasoning for leaving Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, was due to mental health.

While some die-hard Little Mix fans could see her departure from the band coming for a while, it’s now been claimed that Jesy’s fellow bandmates were left utterly shocked by her statement.

An insider close to the girlband has revealed that Perrie, Leigh-Anne, and Jade were not told about the decision and only realised once they saw Jesy’s lengthy Instagram statement.

The source told Mail Online: “Jesy created this scenario. She left the band without telling the girls or management.

“Those around her have been supporting her for ten years and protected her and are devastated over all this.”

After they eventually got over the shock, the Little Mix girls are believed to have scrambled together a statement in support of Jesy, insisting that they will always love her.

However, in a recent interview, Jesy admitted that she hasn’t spoken to the trio since she quit the band.

It comes amid a rumoured feud between Jesy and Leigh-Anne after Jesy’s debut solo single caused commotion as fans lashed out at the singer for ‘blackfishing’.

Leigh-Anne is reported to have called Jesy a ‘horrible person’ in now leaked DM’s sent to viral TikTok star NoHun amid the controversy as fans accused her cultural appropriation and stealing black culture.

The new mum-of-two told the social media star that when Jesy left Little Mix, she ‘completely cut off’ her former friends and bandmates.

And after Jesy discovered what Leigh-Anne had reportedly said about her, she hit back during a livestream with Nicki Minaj.

Jesy insisted that the reason she looked so tanned in the music video for her debut single, Boyz, was due to the fact she was away on holiday for three weeks and caught the sun.

However, an insider has since claimed that while Jesy was still in Little Mix, she was previously warned about ‘blackfishing’.

The insider told Mail Online: “Everyone had been very supportive to Jesy. Leigh Anne and others sat down with Jesy years ago and spoke to her about blackfishing - and warned her about her excessive tanning and wearing braids.

“The word ‘blackfishing’ may not have been used but the principle of it was. But Jesy didn’t want to hear it - she just didn't want to know. It's not new news to her.”

The claims come as tensions continue to rise between the Little Mix girls.

Jesy’s collaborator, Nicki Minaj, caused widespread outrage when she hit out at Leigh-Anne during the explosive Instagram live.

Nicki blasted Leigh-Anne, calling her a ‘jealous clown’.

Naturally, Little Mix fans hit back at the rapper and also shared their frustration over Jesy’s failure to defend her former bandmate during the sweary tirade.

The Mirror has reached out to Jesy’s representatives for comment on this story.
