Jesy Nelson leaves Little Mix nine years after girl group's X Factor win

Jesy Nelson has left Little Mix, her bandmates have confirmed.

The 29-year-old has been missing in action for over a month now, firstly pulling out of the latter stages of girl group's BBC talent show The Search and then appearances on the MTV Europe Music Awards, Jonathan Ross Show and Children in Need.

On November 17 a spokesperson for the band confirmed she’d be taking some time out.

The statement read: “Jesy is having extended time off from Little Mix for private medical reasons.

"We will not be issuing any further comment currently and ask media to please respect her privacy at this time.”

Jesy was absent from Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday as Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock performed Break Up Song as trio and just after 5pm on Monday, a tweet from the band's official account revealed she'd quit.

It read: "After an amazing 9 years together Jesy has made the decision to leave Little Mix. This is an incredibly sad time for all of us but we are fully supportive of Jesy."

This was followed up by another post reading: "We love her very much and agree that it is so important that she does what is right for her mental health and well-being. We are still very much enjoying our Little Mix journey and the 3 of us are not ready for it to be over.

Further tweets from the girls' account read: "We know that Jesy leaving the group is going to be really upsetting news for our fans. We love you guys so much and are so grateful for your loyalty and continued support of all of us.

"We’re looking forward to seeing so many of you on tour. Love always, Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne xxx"

The girls are set to tour the UK in the spring with their Confetti arena tour.
