How Jesy Nelson 'told bandmates she was quitting' - blocked group chat and a no-show

By Sara-Aisha Kent

Little Mix fans have been wondering for months how it all went down when Jesy Nelson quit the girl group.

Eagle-eyed supporters of the band have noticed that the remaining singers - Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock - have never detailed the exact moment that they discovered Jesy was walking away.

Others have noted that Jesy has spoken about the lead up to her decision to say goodbye to the band but never shared how she broke the news to the girls - who she worked with for nine years.

And now a Little Mix fan page on Twitter has claimed to have uncovered the truth about how Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne discovered that they would become a threesome.

According to screenshots shared by a source to @TheLittleMixTea on the micro-blogging site, it has been alleged that Jesy did not have the courtesy to tell her bandmates - who she met on the 2011 series of the X Factor - her decision to leave and they only suspected something was not right when she did not turn up for work.

The Twitter account uploaded screenshots of the messages received from who they claim is a "member of Little Mix's team" - which has not been confirmed - that wants to share what happened anonymously.

The screenshot message from the alleged insider read: "Jesy blocked them"

The Twitter account owner replied: "The girls?!? She actually did?!"

The music source wrote back: "Yes. She didn’t even tell them she was leaving. :(

"She didn’t show up for work. They was told by their team. Then when they went to message on WhatsApp, she’d left their chat and blocked them all on whatsApp. So they called her and she had a huge go, slagged them all off. Then that was it."

The Mirror has contacted representatives for Little Mix and Jesy Nelson for comment.

Jesy Nelson left the band in December last year.

She's revealed that the pressure of being in the group affected her "mental health" when she shared the news to fans.

She announced her shock departure on her Instagram page after announcing she was taking extended time off from the group the month prior.

She wrote to her 7.3 million followers that she was leaving with a "heavy heart" as she reflected on the success Little Mix have enjoyed since winning The X Factor back in 2011.

Jesy penned: "To all my Mixers, the past nine years in Little Mix has been the most incredible time of my life.

"We have achieved things I never thought possible. From winning our first Brit Award to our sold out shows at the O2.

"You have always been there to support and encourage me and I will never every forget it."

She went on to reveal the reason behind the decision to quit the band.

Jesy added: "The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up t expectations very hard.

"There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focusing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin the process.

"I need to spend some time with the people I love, doing thing that make me happy. I'm ready to embark on a new chapter in my life - I'm not sure what it's going to look like right now, but I hope you'll still be there to support me.

"I want to say thank you to everyone involved in our journey. All the hard work and dedication that went into making us a success.

"To every single fan who came to see us in concert, who listened to our songs and sung their hearts out, sent me messages and supported me along the way I want you to know I love you all so much and I could never have done this without you and I appreciate it endlessly.

"Most of all I want to say thank you to Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne for creating some of the most amazing memories I'l neve forget. I hope that you'll continue to fufill all of your dreams and keep making music that people love. Love Jesy."

In a separate statement published by Little Mix, the remaining three members, Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne reacted to their bandmate's words.

They wrote: "After an amazing 9 years together Jesy has made the decision to leave Little Mix. This is an incredibly sad time for all of us but we are fully supportive of Jesy.

"We love her very much and agree that it is so important that she does what is right for her mental health and well-being. We are still very much enjoying our Little Mix journey and the 3 of us are not ready for it to be over."

The girl band, who found fame on The X Factor, added: "We know that Jesy leaving the group is going to be really upsetting news for our fans. We love you guys so much and are so grateful for your loyalty and continued support of all of us.

"We’re looking forward to seeing so many of you on tour.

"Love always, Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne xxx."

It followed on from Jesy missing several appearances with her bandmates and she then announced a break from her pop career on November 17 2020.

A spokesperson for the group confirmed her temporary departure in a statement at the time.

They shared: "Jesy is having extended time off from Little Mix for private medical reasons.

"We will not be issuing any further comment currently and ask media to please respect her privacy at this time."

This week, tensions between the girls have returned to the spotlight after Jesy released her first solo single since leaving the band.

Jesy has come under fire from fans for the music video for her song Boyz as she has been accused of blackfishing - a term that refers to someone who is pretending to be black or mixed-race - due to sporting a dark tan and braided hair in the video.

Following social media slamming the performer, Leigh-Anne has been accused of fanning the flames after eagle-eyed fans noticed she liked a TikTok video blasting Jesy for having skin the same tone as Trinidadian Nicki Minaj's in her new video.

This was not the only hint that the two are not pals as messages allegedly penned by Leigh-Anne from her Instagram account were leaked where she blasted Jesy as a "horrible person."

Over the weekend, TikTok sensation NoHun revealed a string of screenshotted messages to him from a user claiming to be Leigh-Anne where ex-bandmate Jesy Nelson is dubbed a "horrible person."

The chart-topper's account also appears to suggest to the content creator that he should create a video on solo singer Jesy blackfishing.

NoHun shared a screengrab of the text message chat - which there is no confirmation that it is legit - to unveil a message from Leigh-Anne claiming Jesy blocked her, Jade and Perrie on social media.

Jesy has denied she was even wearing fake tan when filming her new video and said during an Instagram Live stream with superstar rapper Nicki Minaj that she had been to Antigua weeks before the video shoot so she was tanned already.

Jesy said during the livestream: "I personally want to say that my intention was never, ever to offend people of colour with this video and my song because like I said, growing up as a young girl, this is the music that I listened to.

"These are the videos that I watched and thought were the best. For me personally, ’90s/2000 hip hop, R&B music was the best era of music.

"I just wanted to celebrate that. I just wanted to celebrate that era of music because it is what I love."

She continued: "My intention was never, ever, ever want to offend anyone and genuinely it actually does really hurt me that I may have offended people and actually, like, hurt people’s feelings just by genuinely celebrating something that I love."

Jesy was staunchly defended by Nicki Minaj, who appeared with her on her new single. The rapper even fired barbs at the remaining members of Little Mix.

Nicki went on a lengthy rant about Leigh-Anne over claims that she encouraged an influencer to mock Jesy.

Nicki brought up the messages during the Instagram Live, calling Leigh-Anne "jealous" and a "clown".

After the clips went live, Jesy was slammed for not defending Leigh-Anne, and some even accused her of laughing at her old Little Mix bandmate.
