'Jesus Calls, Will You Follow' banner spotted flying over Download Festival 2019

A banner reading "Jesus Calls, Will You Follow" was spotted flying over Download Festival during Trivium's set yesterday (June 15).

Christians are believed to have paid to fly the sign over Donington Park.

Among the acts playing the three day festival are Slipknot and Slayer, whose hits include Necrophiliac and Jesus Saves - which features the lyric: 'Christianity - you spend your life just kissing ass.'

Thousands of fans burst into laughter at the banner, believed to be the brainchild of the FlyJesus project, according to Gazette Live.

Church activist Christine Bonfield, from the group, previously revealed she was planning on several festival stunts this summer after becoming "distraught over the spiritual state of the country".

Over £60,000 has been crowdfunded  for the religious stunt at various festivals.

But fans weren't impressed. Metal-lover Lee Smith claimed she "had wasted her money".

"She should have just spent the money on a ticket to come here and enjoyed herself rather than try this nonsense," quipped Lee, clad in a Slayer t-shirt.

Tens of thousands of fans have flocked to the three day long Castle Donington bash.

Rain previously turned the site into a mud pit, with one fan even suffering a fractured hip after stumbling in the filth.

But the sun has since come out ahead of Slipknot's highly anticipated Saturday headline slot.

Prog rockers Tool and grunge icons The Smashing Pumpkins will round off the event on Sunday.
