Jesurun Rak-Sakyi receives first international call-up with England U20s

Crystal Palace's 18-year-old winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has earned his first international call-up to represent England's U20s against Romania next week.

The teenager, who made his first-team debut for Palace against Chelsea in August, will replace Everton's Anthony Gordon in the squad for the game at St George's Park on September 6.

Rak-Sakyi joined Crystal Palace in 2019 and shot to prominence in their academy last season after his excellent campaign for the U18s, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists in 16 games.

As a result, the left-winger was quickly elevated into the U23s before Patrick Vieira brought him on for his senior debut with 15 minutes left to play at Stamford Bridge.

Rak-Sayki was initially given the chance to train with the first team last season under Roy Hodgson, who told reporters at the time that the teenager had impressed him with his talents on the ball and his mindset.

"For such a young man he's shown remarkable maturity and a remarkable sangfroid as well, coming into a group of senior players that he's probably only watched from the terraces before," said the former Eagles boss.

"We believe at Crystal Palace he has a big future and he will get better. He's certainly started in the right way.

"To come in and make the impression he's made and get the senior players around him to appreciate his talents, that's no mean achievement I think."

Now Rak-Sakyi will get the chance to show off his talents in an England shirt for the very first time and impress new manager Andy Edwards, who took the U20 job after Lee Carsley was promoted to the U21s.
