Jessie J feels 'robbed' of time with son

Jessie J feels robbed of time with her son

Jessie J feels cancer has "robbed" her of time with her son.

The 37-year-old singer revealed earlier this year she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and subsequently underwent a mastectomy in June, and she admitted the "worst part" of her health struggles has been missing out on being with two-year-old Sky, who she has with boyfriend Chanan Colman.

Speaking on the Great Company with Jamie Laing podcast, she said: “Yesterday I sobbed, because I miss my boy. I can't be a mom like I want to be a mom and I feel robbed.

“The worst part is… I feel like cancer has robbed me of memories with my boy. And anyone with a toddler knows that they change so much in that space of time. You blink and he’s chatting.”

The Domino singer has had some "awful" days and at one point shortly after receiving her diagnosis, she believed she "was going to die.”

She admitted: “I had been scared. I was like, ‘I’m going to die.'

“I had moments where I was like, ‘This is going to go left and I'm going to die.’ At that point, I didn’t know if I was going to have extensive treatment. I didn’t know what it was going to be.”

Jessie was initially told the lump she had found in her breast was "probably a cyst" but after undergoing tests she was then told there was “about 4-5 cm of cancer.”

She added: “I just burst into tears. I think because I was convinced it wasn’t going to be anything … [The doctors] tell you the result and then they’re like, ‘We’ll be in touch.’ That’s when you’re just like, ‘Right, what happens next?’ ”

Shortly before undergoing surgery, Jessie performed at Capital's Summertime Ball with Barclaycard in London and her memories of the support she received from the audience stayed with her while she was in hospital.

She said: “That euphoria and energy was ... when I was put to sleep, it was that moment that I replayed in my head.

"It was an unimaginable amount of love I received in that 25 minutes onstage … it was overwhelming.”
