Jessica Mauboy returns to leading film role in Windcatcher for Stan

Australian singer and actress Jessica Mauboy, known for her breakthrough role in the 2013 hit film 'The Sapphires,' is making a long-awaited return to the big screen in the upcoming family feature 'Windcatcher.' Directed by Tanith Glynn-Maloney, with a screenplay by Boyd Quakawoot, this Stan Original movie will be exclusively available to Australian audiences on the streaming platform starting from March 28th.

Set in a charming small country town, 'Windcatcher' tells the heartwarming story of an unlikely friendship between three individuals. Percy Boy, portrayed by newcomer Lennox Monaghan, teams up with the spirited Daisy Hawkins and newcomer Keithy Cobb to challenge a group of grade five bullies and win the local school sports day. Along the way, Percy Boy discovers a remarkable ability passed down from his grandfather - the power to see lost souls.

As Percy Boy trains with the help of his friends, he must confront his fears, demonstrate his resilience, and become a force to be reckoned with. This unique and magical coming-of-age tale is set to capture the hearts of audiences of all ages.

Jessica Mauboy, an iconic figure in Australian entertainment, steps into the role of Aunty Cressida in 'Windcatcher,' marking her return to a leading film role after more than a decade. Mauboy has predominantly been seen in music and TV roles, including appearances on shows like 'Australian Idol,' 'The Voice,' and 'The Project.' Her presence adds a touch of star power to this highly anticipated Australian film.

'Windcatcher' is a significant collaboration between Stan and the Australian Children's Television Foundation (ACTF), marking Stan's first co-commission with ACTF. The film was developed with the support of the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland and has received major production investments from Screen Australia, ACTF, the Post Lounge, and Stan. It is produced by Meg O'Connell and Drew Grove from Unless Pictures and Every Cloud Productions, respectively.

Executive producers Bernadette O'Mahony (ACTF), Cailah Scobie, Donna Chang, and Rachel Okine (Stan) have worked together to bring this captivating story to the screen. The worldwide distribution of 'Windcatcher' will be handled by the Australian Children's Television Foundation, ensuring its reach beyond Australian borders.
