The Disney Upfronts are announcing important news for fans of the company and that includes upcoming news for shows like Daredevil: Born Again! And Krysten Ritter is returning as Jessica Jones in season 2!
Ritter plays Jessica Jones in the Netflix era of Marvel shows. She was an important part of the Defenders universe and was one of the best additions to the Marvel canon. Jessica is incredibly strong but also a reluctant hero who doesn’t want to be a part of whatever team Matt (Charlie Cox) has to put together in New York.
The original series began running in November of 2015 and ran for three seasons. It tackled Jessica’s sexual assault and abuse at the hands of Kilgrave (David Tennant), had Jessica fighting off her own inner demons, and more. Quite frankly, it was one of the best things that Marvel ever produced and it was a sad day when the cancelation news from Netflix came through. But now she’s back in the MCU and I could not be more excited!
Ritter took to the stage at the Upfronts to talk about returning to the franchise, saying “It’s so great to be back, returning to Jessica after three seasons and The Defenders and now joining the MCU,” Ritter said. “I’m so excited to bring back this iconic character, and without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season!”
The news comes after Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle made a return in Born Again season 1 and many fans wondered if the Defenders universe would slowly start to make their appearance in the Disney+ Marvel era. Luckily, Jessica is the second to come over (as she was the second show to join the Netflix era).
We don’t know much else about her involvement in the series but, for me, this is all I wanted and I love it so much.
