Jessica Eye issues statement after UFC on ESPN 10: ‘I am never ashamed of myself’

Even though Jessica Eye had a disappointing weekend, she seems to be at peace with it.

Eye, who missed weight for her second consecutive fight, lost a unanimous decision to Cynthia Calvillo this past Saturday in the UFC on ESPN 10 headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. For 25 minutes, Calvillo put on a standout performance in her women’s flyweight debut to soundly defeat the division’s No. 1 contender.

In a statement issued late Sunday night on Instagram, Eye expressed no regrets over the result.

“I am never ashamed of myself no matter what the outcome is in a fight in the octagon,” Eye said. “I am beyond thankful for every moment that I have whether it’s good or bad. I am grateful for the support and even more for the critical a**holes that seem to just have nothing better to do but to be a menace. Thank you, UFC.”

Eye’s loss came after she officially weighed in at 126.25 pounds for the fight, which was .25 over the limit. Prior to UFC on ESPN 10, Eye was confident she’d have no issues with her weight cut. But she looked physically not well on the scale and afterward said she was “extremely proud” of herself for coming so close to making weight under the circumstances.

After beating Eye at UFC on ESPN 10, Calvillo accused Eye of being much heavier for the fight, claiming she grabbed the hoop while standing on the scale.

Eye now has alternated wins and losses in her last three fights after putting together a three-fight winning streak that earned her a title shot last year, which she lost by knockout to champion Valentina Shevchenko
