Jessica Alba underwent five operations before the age of 11 due to chronic illness


Jessica Alba has bravely opened up about the chronic illness she lived with throughout her childhood.

The Hollywood actress, 39, underwent five massive operations before the age of 11 due to her condition and spent a huge chunk of her young years in and out of hospital.

The Into The Blue star opened up about the traumatic period of her life in a candid interview with Romper where she insisted that without good health, it’s difficult to be happy.

Jessica told the publication: “I grew up with chronic illness. I had five surgeries before I was 11 years old. I had chronic allergies, and I was hospitalized a lot as a child.”

Although she severely suffered in her younger years, Jessica has been able to find some positives in her own experience.

Being sick as a child has now made the actress hyper-aware of her own children’s health.

The brunette beauty shares children Honor, 12, Haven, nine, and Hayes, three with her husband Cash Warren, and Jessica decided to put her career on the back burner when she welcomed her first daughter back in 2008.

Lifting the lid on why she chose family life over her career at the time, Jessica explained that being sick as a child have her a new outlook on life – she just wanted ‘to live’.

“I had this real moment of, I want to live, and thrive, and spend as much time with this little person that I'm bringing into the world as possible and stay.

“So, my health matters. I want this little person to be healthy. And it's really freaking hard to be happy when you don't have your health.”

While The Sin City star has dabbled in some film work since welcoming her three youngsters, Jessica insisted that her family is the most important thing in her life and her career will never come before her loved ones.
