Jesse Spencer dropped fake baby '17 times' while filming 'Chicago Fire' rescue scene

Sept. 28--Jesse Spencer apparently suffers from a condition known as butter fingers.

"Chicago Fire" actor Christian Stolte revealed during a private cast Q for Nike+ Chicago members Saturday at Chop Shop that Spencer had trouble with a scene requiring hand-eye coordination in the upcoming season.

"You'll see something this season where a human being of relative small size is tossed off a building, and you will see Lt. Matt Casey heroically dive and catch that small human being," Stotle said of Spencer's character. "And when we watch it, all we're going to be picturing is the 17 times that baby bounced."

(The cast was laughing at Spencer -- who was not on hand to defend himself -- so it's safe to assume the baby he kept dropping was a doll or mannequin.)

Joining Stolte on stage were co-stars Eamonn Walker, David Eigenberg, Joe Minoso, Dora Madison, Kara Killmer, Randy Flagler and Tony Ferraris. The actors shared stories about the demanding challenges they face during filming, while also reminding everyone that it's nothing compared to what real firefighters go through.

"Every day you throw on 75 pounds (of firefighter equipment)," Eigenberg said. "They tell you to pick up a 120 pound woman. I weigh 130 to 140 pounds. .. If you look at me three and a half years ago and look at me today, it looks like I've aged in dog years. It beats you up."

Madison is one of the newer cast members and said she learned that lesson from day one.

"My first day I had to lift a guy off a fence and realized really quickly I had to get in better shape," Madison said. "By the 15th take, it's like 'Oh my God.' ... 'Can we not pick them up during rehearsal, please?'"

The fourth season of "Chicago Fire" premieres Oct. 13.
