Jesse Marsch to Celtic blow as Bundesliga expert pours cold water over move with 'spoiled for choice' claim

Bundesliga expert Derek Rae insists Celtic fans shouldn't get their hopes up that Jesse Marsch will be their next boss.

The Red Bull Salzburg manager says it's an "honour" to have been linked with the vacant Parkhead hotseat as the search for Neil Lennon's successor goes on.

But Rae, who is a commentator for Germany's top flight and knows the division inside out, claims Marsch will be "spoiled for choice" looking for his next role and that there could be some top Bundesliga clubs after him including RB Leipzig.

He said: "Don’t want to be a killjoy but Jesse Marsch is likely to be spoiled for choice soon.

"A domino effect situation in Germany means he could have the choice of some very big Bundesliga coaching jobs this summer backed by successful sporting divisions. Being linked with Celtic helps that."

It's been a meteoric rise for Marsch who previously managed New York Red Bulls and was an assistant at Leipzig, helped develop the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Braut Haaland, before excelling with Salzburg in Austria.

He is flattered at getting mentioned in the same breath as Celtic and would be interested in what the project would look like with the Premiership side.

Marsch told BBC Sport: “It's an honour for me.

“I know enough about it to say of course it's interesting. It's an amazing club and it would be an honour to even be considered.

“But I also have a job to do here. My way of working is really to focus on the job that I'm doing and concentrate on the moment. And the more that I do that the more other possibilities can arise.

"Three or four years ago, being linked with a club like Celtic would literally be an impossibility for me.

"And now that this is where I am, I always just try to look at it in terms of, 'what would the project look like?'

"Would we have similar ideas in how to build it the right way, invest in the academy, invest in young players and create this development process that I'm talking about? And not just focus on winning.

"Obviously I know that when you're the coach of Celtic, winning is the most important thing."
