Jesse Marsch Celtic manager hint as RB Salzburg chief admits 'clubs have their eye' on rising star

RB Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund admits he can't say for sure that Celtic-linked Jesse Marsch will be with the club next season.

The American is seen as a rising star in the game, and has been touted as a potential replacement for Neil Lennon.

Though Eddie Howe remains the frontrunner for the job, Celtic are yet to appoint a new manager for next season.

It's been reported that Jose Mourinho has been approached, and Marsch's name has also been in the hat for months.

And while RB Leipzig expect him to remain in Austria, with a year on his contract they know there could be offers.

Freund explained: "It has to be a really good overall package for him to say he is leaving.

"He has a quiet environment, loves working with young players. He has a lot of fun in Salzburg, his family feels good, we are successful.

"On the other hand, I cannot say with one hundred percent (certainty) that he will be my coach next year.

“No club has registered (their interest) yet. Jesse is good here, but we know that he only has a one-year contract. Some clubs have their eyes on him.”
