Jesse Lingard told Newcastle would be the perfect move if he leaves Manchester United

Former Chelsea forward Tony Cascarino has tipped Jesse Lingard to be a "good signing" for relegation-threatened Newcastle United as speculation surrounding his future at Manchester United grows.

The 28-year-old has made just one appearance under new interim manager Ralf Rangnick, coming in the 1-1 draw with Young Boys in the final Champions League group match.

Prior to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking, he failed to cement a place in the starting line-up following a successful loan spell with West Ham last season.

Despite Rangnick's appointment, he has yet to make an appearance in the Premier League after the 63-year-old named an unchanged line-up in the 1-0 win over Norwich.

Eddie Howe's side are said to be interested in the attacker and reportedly pinpointed him as one of their priorities in the upcoming transfer window.

The Magpies suffered a 4-0 defeat to Leicester City on Sunday as their miserable run continues but following their takeover from a Saudi-led consortium, they're expected to bolster their squad in January.

As such, Cascarino feels it would be a move that suits all parties.

"They didn't have the greatest start of the season where you can go 'well no you can't get in the team' there's been some down times at Man United and he deserved an opportunity and he wasn't given one," Cascarino told talkSPORT.

"So Jesse [Lingard] needs to play football, he's 28-years old, he's had a decent career but never quite got over the line at Man United. Go out on loan again if he has to and prove what his worth is because they might want him on a permanent.

"It's a good signing, I believe, for Newcastle and for him, he needs to be playing football and that's the bottom line."
