Jesse Lingard shirt number revealed as West Ham loan Manchester United midfielder

West Ham have signed Jesse Lingard from Manchester United in a deal that runs until the end of the season, with the 28-year-old given the No.11 shirt for the Hammers.

Lingard has made more than 200 appearances for the Red Devils and is looking to revive his career at the London Stadium under his former manager David Moyes, who worked with him at Old Trafford in the 2013/14 season.

Speaking to West Ham TV Lingard said: "I’m excited, it’s another new chapter in my life. Nothing is guaranteed but I’ve come here to work hard and help the team and bring my experience.

"That’s the main aim. I just want to enjoy my football and get back playing again and get my feet back on the pitch."

Lingard has struggled for game time this season, featuring in only two League Cup games and one FA Cup match, but his big-match experience could prove invaluable to the Hammers as they aim for a European spot.

“There were lots of clubs involved but, for me personally, I felt this was the right move. The Club is going in the right direction. We’re on the right track and I’m here to help," said Lingard.

"I’ve obviously had a previous relationship with the manager as he was at Man U and I’ve played under him before, so he knows my qualities and what I can bring to the team.

"I know a couple of the players as well – I know Dec [Rice] very well from the England side – and I feel I can really settle in here quickly," he added.

The attacking-midfielders versatility is something that appealed to Moyes:

"I've seen him play off the left. He's played for England as a No10, he's played for England as a No8, and I actually think if we needed him as a False 9, he could do that as well.

"We're bringing in that versatility, I've wanted to try to get an energetic team at the moment and Jesse has been known for his work-rate and effort, so I think he'll fit in nicely with what we've got."

Lingard will not be involved in the match against Champions Liverpool after West Ham missed the Friday 12pm deadline to complete the deal. The midfielder will be hoping to make his Hammers debut on Wednesday evening away to Aston Villa.
