Jesse Lingard's one word verdict on the Emirates Stadium amid talk of Arsenal transfer

The big Arsenal transfer news at the moment surrounds Jesse Lingard.

Currently, on loan at West Ham United from Manchester United, the midfielder is being linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium as Gunners manager Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad before next season.

While the Hammers are understood to be keen to sign Lingard permanently this summer, the 28-year-old has also attracted attention from others, with Arsenal linked with a move for him.

After struggling for game time during the first half of the season, the attacking midfielder has been superb since making the temporary switch to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

His brace in West Ham's 3-1 win over Leicester City on Sunday afternoon means it's now eight goals in nine Premier League appearances for the England international.

And he appears to have caught the attention of Arteta who is reportedly interested in signing Lingard if a permanent deal for Martin Odegaard does not happen this summer.

Lingard's current contract with Man United is set to expire in the summer of 2022 and former Arsenal ace Paul Merson has told the midfielder to consider his next move carefully.

"I don’t see him going back to Manchester United," Merson told Sky Sports. "He wants to play football. He’s gone to West Ham to play football, now he’s got the love back a bit.

"He lost a little bit of the love of the football, I think he lost his way a little bit. Now he’s loving football again, he’s playing.

"You want to play every week. There’s no point him going back to Manchester United and playing in the Carabao Cup games."

But could Lingard really be swapping Old Trafford for the Emirates?

Interestingly, Lingard previously got under the skin of Arsenal fans with his nickname for their home ground.

After scoring against the Gunners in an FA Cup tie during the 2018/2019 season, he pulled out a ‘moonwalk’ celebration.

To make matters even worse, Lingard then trolled Arsenal with his location setting.

Rather than linking to Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium as the location on an Instagram post, Lingard named it his “Dancefloor”.

That certainly gives this surprise transfer rumour some added spice.
