Jesse Lingard reveals Manchester United squad secret to welcoming new transfers

Jesse Lingard has explained visiting restaurants has been the key to welcoming Manchester United's new signings.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer inherited a fractured dressing room from his predecessor Jose Mourinho and he's since gone on record with assistant Mike Phelan to reveal how they sought to implement a radical culture shift at the club across his first 100 days.

The Norwegian is understood to have created a harmonious environment at Carrington and this has been key in enabling new signings to settle in quickly - United signed Tom Heaton, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

Although Lingard was on loan at West Ham for the second half of the season last term, he's since returned in great style and has reflected on the atmosphere in United's dressing room, revealing that the Reds' stars will often socialise away from football.

“Everyone has bonded really well. The new signings have come in and settled straight away," Lingard told United's in-house media.

“We go for dinners outside of football, which is good for team bonding and is good for getting to know one another on a personal level as well. It’s one of the best teams I’ve played in. The attacking and defending part of the team is up there with the best.

“It’s just about clicking, doing the right things, scoring lots of goals and entertaining the fans, and of course winning games – that’s the main aim. We’re one of the biggest clubs in the world and, when we get beaten, we’re one of the worst teams in the world.

"And then we’re the best team in the world again! It’s always been like that, ever since I’ve been in the team. It’s huge pressure putting on the shirt, but we want that pressure and we’ve been in worse situations in the past.

“We’re still at the start of our season and we’re up there near the top of the table in the league, and we have the chance to prove ourselves as a team and show what we’re about in the games coming up, because they’re big games for us.”
