Jesse Lingard reveals his connection with West Ham goes back almost 20 years

Jesse Lingard joined West Ham on loan at the end of January and scored a brace on his debut against Aston Villa - but the Hammers star has revealed they were not his first goals for the club.

Since signing for David Moyes' side, Lingard has been the form player in the Premier League. The attacking midfielder has scored nine and assisted three in his ten appearances in claret and blue, more than any other player across the league in that time.

The return to his best has seen the 28-year-old recalled to the England squad by Gareth Southgate and he is now a serious contender for the European Championships this summer.

Whilst on England duty earlier this month Lingard and former Manchester United teammate Marcus Rashford took part in a 'roommates' quiz where the two answer questions about one another to see who knows the other best.

In this game, Lingard told Rashford that his first West Ham goal was actually against Spurs and not his opening strike at Villa Park.

"When I was younger I went to West Ham on trial, when I was nine," he said. "I scored my first goal."

Rashford asked who it was against and Lingard gave an answer that Hammers fans will love: "Tottenham."

So not only is Lingard back at the club he represented as a young boy, but he started his West Ham career off in style scoring against the Hammers rivals, something he would go onto replicate almost 20 years later.

In February, Lingard smashed home a left-footed effort beyond Hugo Lloris leading David Moyes' team to a 2-1 win over their arch-rivals.

Lingard also revealed that had he not become a professional footballer, he would have wanted to be a music artist or a stockbroker. Hammers fans are sure to be relieved the football worked out and will be hopeful Lingard remains with his second boyhood club for many seasons to come.
