Jesse Lingard hopes he can put his poor form behind him after his goal in Manchester United's 6-0 FA Cup drubbing of Tranmere Rovers.
United went into the fourth-round clash at Prenton Park with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under intense scrutiny after a run of poor results in the Premier League.
Lingard was also under some pressure, having been criticised this season for his below-par performances and for his apparent focus on commercial activities.
He had also been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this month after joining up with super agent Mino Raiola.
But the 27-year-old forward hit back at his critics with his second goal of the season as United hit their opponents for six to stroll into the fifth round.
Lingard was relieved to get on the scoresheet as he praised his team-mates' performances and hailed defender Harry Maguire for his early long-range drive that set United on their way to victory.
"I've not been in the best form," Lingard told BT Sport. "It's always good to score a goal and help the team.
"A lot of people contributed. It was a well-rounded performance by the team. We knew it would be tough but we’ve come through.
"An early goal always helps to settle crowd down."
After Maguire had opened the scoring, Diogo Dalot doubled the lead when he poked home from an angle.
Lingard added a third inside 16 minutes and Phil Jones then looped a header over stranded Tranmre keeper Scott Davies.
There was still time for Anthony Martial to find the net before the break, while Mason Greenwood got in on the act in the second half from the penalty spot.
United will discover their fifth-round opponents in Monday night's draw, which will take place ahead of the final fourth-round clash between Bournemouth and Arsenal .
After securing their place in the hat for the next round, Solskjaer's Red Devils face Manchester City at the Etihad on Wednesday in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final. United trail 3-1 from the first leg at Old Trafford.
