Jesse Lingard predicts Manchester United role change under Solskjaer

Jesse Lingard thinks his role at Manchester United could 'change' in the 'next few weeks'.

Lingard, 28, was frozen out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans last season and, while it was hoped his loan move to West Ham in January would reboot his career, no one would have foreseen the rich vein of form that the playmaker would enjoy in London.

The United academy graduate scored nine goals and created three assists across his first nine games after his switch and his temporary move was a resounding success, which led to Solskjaer reconsidering his stance on Lingard for the new campaign.

Lingard has already vindicated that decision from the United boss with multiple stellar performances from off the bench, however, he's now admitted that he hopes his displays will guarantee him a place in Solskjaer's starting 11 in the near future.

Solskjaer has a selection headache in attack, though, and that's without mentioning Marcus Rashford has returned after injury.

"It’s always hard [to miss out on a squad]," Lingard told the Evening Standard.

"Considering where I was for a period of time, not playing as much and not in the England squad, to get into the 33-man [provisional Euros] squad shows what you can do with hard work and belief.

Should Lingard start for United against Leicester? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

"I was disappointed to miss out but I was still there supporting the boys through thick and thin. It gives you more hunger and motivation to be playing in the biggest of tournaments and games.

On his United playing time he added: "You want to start games. When I’m sub I’m always ready to play.

"I’m always ready to be needed when I’m called up. It’s one of those things I’m going through at the moment but I think on recent performances hopefully we’ll see a change in the next few weeks."
