Jesse Lingard: Manchester United and West Ham agree fee for loan until end of season

Manchester United and West Ham have agreed a £1.5m loan fee in principle for Jesse Lingard, who is set to play at the London Stadium until the end of the season.

Lingard’s wages will be covered in full by West Ham as part of the agreement.

The 28-year-old has made just three appearances for United this season and failed to start a Premier League game having fallen out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Lingard will be reunited with former United manager David Moyes, who included him on the Old Trafford club’s pre-season tour in 2013.

West Ham’s pursuit of Lingard was complicated by Premier League rules which only allow two domestic loan players at any one time.

Said Benrahma and Craig Dawson were both on loan at the London Stadium from Brentford and Watford respectively. West Ham have brought the pre-arranged signing of Benrahma forward in order to secure Lingard.

Solskjaer had granted Lingard permission to speak to other clubs and seek regular playing time after his limited opportunities at Old Trafford this season.

“He wants to play football, we'll have to see. I will sit with Jesse and make a decision on what we're going to do,” the United manager said on Sunday.

“He’s so far been the ultimate professional, always trained and trained well this morning with a small group, the ones that weren’t in the squad, so I will sit down, speak with him again and see if anything comes up.

“I’m very happy to have Jesse around us because I know he could have played here today and done well.”
