Jesse Lingard received a warning that Mason Greenwood is ready to take his place in the Manchester United first team this week.
And in the very next game Lingard was subbed for the youngster in the Red Devils' defeat by Crystal Palace.
Lingard has started each of United's first three fixtures but has failed to impress like some of his team-mates and is yet to score.
He was hooked midway through the second half on Saturday, with Greenwood taking his place on the pitch at Old Trafford.
The swap comes after Steve Nicol warned this very thing could happen.
"Well I would suggest that probably Solskjaer will be thinking about [bringing in youngsters for Lingard]," Nicol told ESPN FC.
"But he will also understand somebody like Mason Greenwood, you cannot just throw him in and leave him to sink or swim.
"You have to gradually get him in. You have to put him in for 20 minutes, then 40, and then build it up.
"At the same time, you can't totally discard a Lingard because if you lose him by saying 'do you know what, you're out, he's in'.
