Jesse Lingard drops squad number hint as new Nottingham Forest signing plays role model

New Nottingham Forest signing Jesse Lingard could have revealed his new squad number.

A video of the new Reds star greeting delighted members of the Forest under-11s squad at the Nigel Doughty Academy has been posted on social media. And the shirt Lingard was wearing after training himself gave a huge clue to his squad number for the season ahead. Wearing the new Forest home strip, his was emblazoned with "Lingard 11" on the back as he stopped to greet the group of excited academy youngsters.

The number 11 shirt is vacant as it was worn by loanee Phillip Zinckernagel last season, and the former Watford man has since joined Olympiacos, opening the door for Lingard to take the number after his arrival at the City Ground on a free transfer last week.

"These are the under-11s," an academy coach shouts over to Lingard in the video. "I think they're excited to see you, mate!"

The former Man United man takes time to greet the kids and talk to them all, giving them high fives, asking how they are and if they have been working hard in training. He then pulls out his phone and takes a selfie with the squad of youngsters.

He posted the clip to his Instagram story with the caption: "Lovely meeting you all today. Keep working hard", followed by a flexing bicep emoji and a red heart.

Lingard wore the number 11 shirt during a loan spell for West Ham the season before last, and was also handed the shirt while playing for Manchester United under-21s early in his career. He had been tipped to don to number 10 juersey for Forest.
