Jess Glynne reflects on music return after five-year hiatus as she's supported by Alex Scott

Jess Glynne has admitted it’s “taken a lot” to be "excited" about creating music again after five years away from the charts.

The singer's breakthrough came in 2014 when she featured on Clean Bandit’s Grammy Award-winning Rather Be and Route 94’s My Love. She went on to make history by becoming the first British female solo artist to score seven number ones on the UK Singles Chart.

In 2022, it was revealed that the Grammy winner parted ways with record label Atlantic after a series of disagreements about her future.

Despite the setback, the music star has come back stronger joining the likes of Taylor Swift, Sam Smith and Lewis Capaldi on record label EMI and is now managed by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

In celebration of her new single, Friend of Mine, the hitmaker told The Standard she’s “excited” for the direction her career is now taking after her unplanned break in 2018.

Speaking at London’s The Hawley Arms, she said: “It’s taken me a lot to get back to a place where I’m excited to do what I love again.

“I’m really proud everything I’ve built around me and I’m really proud of my team and how supportive they’ve been.

Glynne added: “I never planned [to be gone for so long] so many things happened in my life. I wish it wasn’t that long but you can’t control those things, you can’t control uncontrollable.”

With a third yet-untitled album on the horizon, the singer said she is excited about what is to come.

“I am nervous and if I wasn’t I mean I wouldn’t care but I’m excited and that’s important,” she added.

Glynne’s comments come as she was supported at the event by Alex Scott. The pair were seen for the first time since their “romance” came to light earlier this month.

At the intimate gig, the singer performed six songs, including an unreleased track from her new album, while Scott watched on with Glynne’s friends and family.

After pulling pints for fans and attendees, the 34-year-old was pictured leaving the Camden venue with Scott, 38, in photos obtained by MailOnline.

Glynne and the former Strictly Come Dancing star were first pictured together in July watching the tennis at Wimbledon and have reportedly grown closer since.

More recently, they partied together at David Beckham’s Netflix documentary premiere after-party at The Twenty Two in West London as well as the Attitude and Glamour's Women of the Year Awards.
