Jesmond aged care worker tests positive to COVID

JESMOND Grove is the latest aged care facility that has had a staff member test positive for COVID-19.

It comes after 11 residents, and another staff member, tested positive for the virus at the Masonic Village at Edgeworth.

The Anglican Care employee last worked at the site on August 8, and became aware of the positive result on "the evening of" August 10, Bishop of Newcastle, Dr Peter Stuart, said in a letter.

"Our COVID-19 Response Team has commenced its pandemic response plans to ensure the continued safety and wellbeing of residents and employees," he wrote.

"We are working closely with NSW Health and they will be undertaking contact tracing of close contacts. Pathology will be on site on August 11 to test residents and staff and we will continue to assess all residents multiple times daily for signs and symptoms of the virus.

"We understand that this may be a concerning time for the Anglican Care Community.

"We will continue to keep everyone updated as the situation continues to evolve."
