Jersey summer bookings surge as holidaymakers seek restriction-free destinations

Jersey has reported reports a surge in interest from holidaymakers searching for an alternative to an overseas break.

Shortly after the Channel Island announced it was re-opening borders, the Visit Jersey website experienced a surge in traffic – with a 48% uplift in UK traffic exploring what the island has to offer, including its remote beaches, country lanes and fresh air.

Jersey’s hotels, restaurants and attractions are also swiftly drawing up plans for a busy season.

As part of the Common Travel Area, Jersey is not included in the UK international travel ban and visitors do not need to complete the UK Government Travel Declaration Form ahead of their travels to the island.

With UK holiday makers rushing to get a last-minute booking in mainland UK, Jersey offers an alternative to explore with over 30 beaches.

Jersey has plenty of space to sunbathe with 12 miles of secluded, spacious sandy beaches and uninterrupted coastal paths, and also holds the title of sunniest spot in the British Isles.

Amanda Burns, chief executive of Visit Jersey, said: “After more than five months, we can’t wait to welcome visitors back to our shores.

"As part of the British Isles, we are pleased to be able to open our borders and offer visitors a safe place to take in our beautiful island culture, pristine beaches and uninterrupted coastal paths for a well-deserved getaway close to home.

"By re-introducing our Safer Travel Guidance from April 26 visitors can feel assured of a safe, enjoyable experience where they can make the most of everything Jersey has to offer including its vast history, fresh local produce and beautiful landscapes."

Only a short, 45-minute flight from the mainland, the largest of the Channel Islands is the perfect post-lockdown holiday destination.
