When a sandwich photo online promises a stacked creation with meats, melty cheese, and peppers piled high, a disappointment hits hard. That’s what happened to one Chicago man who says his Jimmy John’s order arrived looking…nothing like the ad.
What Went Wrong With the Order?
TikTok creator @yaelnavarroo shared the ordeal in a video that now has over 15,800 views.
“So last night I ordered this sandwich from Jimmy John’s,” he begins, while showing a photo of the ad in the background of his video. “The Sicilian pizza sandwich. You see, like, it looks good… the meats, the cheese, sauce, peppers, everything.”
He says he picked up his sandwich and immediately knew something was off about his order. “Why does it feel like there’s literally a toothpick in there? It doesn’t weigh anything,” he says.
He opens it and shows the camera: two slices of cheese, a few peppers, and some sauce. No meat. He also says the entire thing is paper-thin.
“So I call the Jimmy John’s,” he says. “I’m super nice about it… and I’m like, hi, we ordered the sandwich, I got home, and there’s no meat on it.”
The worker allegedly puts him on hold. When he returns, he says they guess they can remake it. “You guess?” he says, clearly confused but still trying to keep things calm.
He accepts the remake and then asks a fair question: can they deliver it, since he already walked there and back? The store allegedly says no.
“Mind you, this Jimmy John’s is not busy,” he says. “The delivery driver’s right there.”
He explains that it’s a 10-minute walk each way and that delivering it would take less time than him coming back. Still, they refuse.
When he presses again, they say a delivery fee would apply. “A delivery fee… for the sandwich that got messed up,” he says. “You’re gonna charge me a delivery fee?”
He tried one more time, but he says the worker persisted, so he finally gave in. “So I said OK, I’ll be there in 10 minutes,” he recalls.
He returns, picks up the sandwich, and checks it in the store before leaving. “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me,” he says. “And I don’t play about my food.”
Can Restaurants Charge For Delivery After a Mistake?
Most restaurants will remake a wrong order and send it out without hesitation, especially if the mistake was theirs. A request to deliver a corrected item isn’t unusual, and many places see it as basic customer service.
But smaller locations, franchises, or understaffed shops often follow rigid internal rules about what counts as a delivery. If the system requires entering a paid delivery fee to dispatch a driver, employees may feel boxed in, even when the situation clearly calls for flexibility.
Commenters Are Upset Too
“They should’ve added a free meal on your account or name at the store. Corporate will give you a free one if you reach out to them!”
He replied, “I reached out and no one ever got back to me!! Even followed up!!”

“To be fair MOST places use DoorDash, they don’t have actual drivers,” one person wrote.
“Jersey mikes ftw. They’ve never failed me,” another said.
